GOALS


 

  1. To develop active Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC)
    • By providing and encouraging LEPC's to apply for Chemical Emergency 
      Preparedness Funds.
    • By making staff assistance visits and attending LEPC meetings.
    • By fostering the completion, updating and exercising of all LEPC plans.
    • By providing technical assistance through specialized training and the explanation 
      of state and federal laws and regulations.
    • By providing up-to-date information through conferences, instructional handouts,
      and LEPC newsletters.
  2. To achieve a high level of EPCRA reporting compliance
    • By providing LEPC's with current reporting data received by the MERC.
    • By offering written and oral advice to LEPC's seeking local compliance.
    • By preparing clear and concise instructions in reporting compliance packets.
    • By answering requests to attend industry workshops.
    • By encouraging LEPC's and local officials to participate in outreach programs
      conducted by the MERC.
    • By cooperating with federal officials investigation of non-compliance incidents.
  3. To provide quality hazardous materials training.
    • By seeking or developing courses that contain current and practical information.
    • By selecting qualified instructors.
    • By utilizing all resources available to the Department of Public Safety and the MERC.
  4. To maintain a high level of competency within the MERC Section.
