SEMA Flood Recovery Update Brief – Thursday, July 27


  • Individuals who lost their job due to flooding in Christian, Crawford, Dent, Greene, Iron, Ste. Genevieve, Wayne and Wright counties may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) through the Missouri Department of Labor
    • Aug. 17 is the deadline to file a DUA claim. Claims can be made at Regional Claims Centers, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  A list of claims centers is available here. DUA claims can also be completed online here.
  • The Missouri Department of Mental Health says counselors from six Community Mental Health Centers working under a special grant are now providing crisis counseling services in flood-impacted communities. Crisis counselors make personal outreach visits, conduct wellness checks and share information on available local resources for psychological and behavioral health services.
  • On Aug. 19, the Missouri Department of Transportation will award contracts for the final major repair projects on flood-damaged roads in Jefferson, St. Louis and Wayne counties.
  • Missouri homeowners and renters have until Aug. 14 to apply for FEMA and SBA assistance in all 35 Missouri counties included in the federal disaster declaration for Individual Assistance. Survivors must register with FEMA to determine if they are eligible for federal assistance.

FEMA mitigation specialist shares tips with a resident about home improvements after a flood. Now through early August, FEMA mitigation specialists are set up in hardware and home improvement stores in nine counties to provide free information, answer questions and offer tips on how to repair and rebuild flood-damaged homes stronger and safer. Times, dates and locations are available at Recovery.mo.gov.
