The American Red Cross has a national tracking system that will be activated to help relatives locate relatives. The tracking system is called Disaster Welfare Inquiries. This system is manned outside the earthquake area. Local citizens need to register their whereabouts with the local Red Cross so the information can be given to relatives who call their own Red Cross offices from outside the disaster area. Red Cross will transmit the information between relatives. This tracking system should keep the telephone lines from overloading.
