If You Seek Sheltering
If you feel your home or business has received sufficient damage, you may feel more
comfortable seeking protection at a shelter run by either the American Red Cross, the
Salvation Army or a local church.

Here are some specific instructions and personal items you will want to gather before
you seek shelter.
- Remain calm.
- Gather together personal items you may need: such as soap, towels, shaving articles,
toothpaste, tooth brushes, sanitary supplies, eyeglasses, dentures, credit cards, baby
foods and disposable diapers, change of clothing. You may also want to bring other
supplies such as a portable radio, flashlight, batteries, plastic or paper bags, toys,
games and books for children and adults.
- Prescription medications and other medical supplies.
- Shelter your pets or livestock. With the exception of seeing eye dogs, pets will not be
allowed in Red Cross shelters. Make sure your pets are wearing identification tags. Make
sure the animals have food, water and medications if applicable. Take your pet to the
