One week left for local governments and nonprofits to request FEMA assistance with infrastructure repairs and expenses related to flooding emergency response

July 14 is deadline for local governments and eligible agencies in 46 counties included in federal Public Assistance disaster declaration to submit applications for FEMA assistance

Local governments and nonprofit agencies in 46 Missouri counties affected by historic spring flooding now have just seven days left to meet the July 14 deadline to file their requests for federal assistance with repairs to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure, and emergency response costs.

Potential applicants should note that the Requests for Public Assistance must first be received by the State Emergency Management Agency, processed, and then submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency by the July 14 deadline, and plan accordingly.

In response to a SEMA request, FEMA extended the Public Assistance application deadline from July 1 to July 14. More than 220 county and local governments; school, sewer and road districts; and nonprofit agencies have filed Requests for Public Assistance, a requirement to receive FEMA assistance. Potential applicants with questions should call SEMA’s Public Assistance Program at (573) 526-9234 as soon as possible because there will not be another application extension. 

The Missouri counties included in the federal Public Assistance disaster declaration are: Barry, Barton, Bollinger, Butler, Camden, Carter, Cedar, Christian, Cole, Crawford, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Dunklin, Franklin, Gasconade, Howell, Iron, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Miller, Morgan, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Pike, Pulaski, Ralls, Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, St. Louis, Stone, Taney, Texas, Washington, Wayne, Webster, and Wright.

SEMA encourages public officials and community leaders to share information about the necessity of filing a Request for Public Assistance in time to meet the July 14 deadline with all potential applicants to ensure they have the opportunity to submit a request for FEMA Public Assistance.

Please note the requirement to file Requests for Public Assistance applies only to government and nonprofit agencies seeking assistance related to damage to infrastructure and facilities, and emergency response costs. This is not a requirement for homeowners, renters and businesses applying for federal assistance.
